The Evan Lurie Gallery will celebrate its first anniversary by showcasing local painter Jason Myers with internationally renowned artists Ben Freeman and Jorge Marin in a show entitled Unexpected Destinations.

Myers’ paintings depict somewhat abstract human figures against a more chaotic abstract background. Many of these canvases have deep, textured layers of paint and some incorporate unusual items such as wire mesh. The subjects of Myers’ work are “moments in life — condensed frames of time that create our memories,” he says.

In past showings, Myers has displayed his paintings alongside the more conventional furniture creations of his Myers Design Inc., based in Suite 140 of the Stutz 2 Building downtown. But this time the paintings will hang alongside Freeman’s mixed media portraits of iconic figures and the works in bronze of Mexican sculptor Marin.

Evan Lurie is exclusively representing Myers, convinced that his work is of the same caliber as these heavy hitters'. Myers will soon showcase his work in Miami Beach, during the important Art Basel show, and in Beverly Hills.

“There’s a lot of talented artists in the Indianapolis area that need to see this kind of success,” Lurie says. “He’s going to find out very quickly that there’s a lot of people …  watching him to see what he’s doing.”
