To a great career
by Editors May 28, 2008

Filmmaker Sydney Pollack died Monday at the age of 73. Pollack, who was born in Lafayette and raised in South Bend, where he attended high school before enrolling in the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, directed such films as They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Tootsie, Out of Africa and Three Days of the Condor. Pollack was also a top-notch character actor in films like Michael Clayton and Eyes Wide Shut. An influential film producer as well, Pollack’s name was connected with The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain and the recent HBO production Recount.
