Thumbsdown: Maybe we should start taxing pollution
by Editors Oct 10, 2007
A state determination to cut mercury emissions from Indiana’s 23 coal-fired power plants by 66 percent by 2018 has drawn criticism from environmentalists who point out that this state ranks fourth nationwide in mercury emissions, and that mercury is a dangerous neuro-toxin that’s dangerous to children, adults and wildlife. Utilities representatives say cutting emissions to a greater extent would lead to rate increases. Illinois will cut its emissions by 90 percent by 2010.
