The Indiana Repertory Theatre will present August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, which represents the 1930s in Wilson’s decology – the 10 plays he wrote about black American culture and experience in each decade of the 20th century.

Brother Boy Willie and sister Berniece disagree over whether to keep their great-grandfather’s piano. Covered with incredible carvings, it recounts their family’s rise from slavery. Their respect for their ancestors collides with desire for a new life as they grapple with that unknowable balance between holding on to the past and letting go for the right reasons.

Shows are Feb. 22-March 15 on the IRT Mainstage, 140 W.
