The end result
This article was a great overview about the dilemma Indianapolis faces in dealing with stray and adoptable pets. This might be a stretch, but I feel that the debate over what’s best for adoptable animals is kind of like the debate over whether big companies are going green just to make money: in both issues, the end result will likely be the same. Those concerned with “greenwashing” say efforts by corporations to go green are simply promotional gimmicks used to put positive spin on what are really exercises in saving money and increasing the bottom line. Even if these actions are done out of greed, if the companies are saving energy and materials, it’s still better for the environment. In the same way, even if HSI is looking out for its own best interests, it is still helping homeless animals find homes. As the Michael Vick story shed light on the widespread dog fighting problem, HSI’s recent actions have similarly reignited controversy about the issue of stray pets and received a lot of coverage in the press. And when so many people remain ignorant about adoption, spaying/neutering, puppy mills, etc., more news is good news.
