Bitch, Little Voice
Radio Radio
Wednesday, March 21, 8 p.m., $6

Embarking on her first solo effort, Bitch, formerly of the duo Bitch and Animal, will perform with Indy’s Little Voice tonight at Radio Radio.

Sounding like Ani DiFranco with a riot girl edge, Bitch’s new release, Make This/Break This, is a heavy look into the life of an artist and the workings of the world around her. On the album, Bitch brings a vehement feminism to her music that is so often brushed under the shaggy mainstream music rug.

Unafraid to use syncopation and wordplay, her music is less concerned with hooks and getting people to sweat on the dance floor than with getting people to understand her message. Weaving words through her lacey melodies, her rhythm-heavy music dashes in and out of the soulful beat-poet sound.

The beauty of Bitch is the commitment she shows. Everywhere that everyone else pretends to go, she goes. Her music is naked and unashamed. As a listener, it’s a terrifying and mesmerizing attack on the cognitive functions. Fueled by politics, personal experiences and poetry, her music is a call to action. “Dare me to rise, and I’ll rise,” she says.
