Summer Celebration

Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration opens this week, running July 6-16. Many events are on offer to the public. Here are just some highlights for this week. For more information, go to www.indianablackexpo.com. See next week’s Cover Story for even more information on the Summer Celebration.

• July 6: Ecumenical Service at 7 p.m. at Light of the World Christian Church, 4646 Michigan Road. This year’s speaker is Dr. Charles Adams of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, Detroit, Mich.

The Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper Pre Expo Kick-Off from 7-10 p.m. at the Savoy, 2200 W. 86th St. Admission includes an Indianapolis Recorder subscription, live entertainment and hors d’oeuvres. Cost is $5 in advance, $10 at the door.

• July 7: Kick Off Celebration of Black Authors — Go On Girl Book Club from 6-9 p.m. at Martin University Gathertorium, 2171 N. Avondale Place.

• July 9-10: IBE Film Festival featuring independent African-American films. Sunday at Hollywood Bar & Filmworks, 247 S. Meridian St., 1-6 p.m. and Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the Walker Theatre, 617 Indiana Ave. Admission us $5.

• July 10-12: Black Business Conference. The conference will include a host of speakers and sessions at many locations.
