The Fifth Annual Haughville Story Fest is not just a feast of great storytelling, but a way of preserving the history of this storied Westside neighborhood. The festival begins Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., resumes on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. and concludes Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m.

Friday night’s program features the Story All Stars, including the masterful Deborah Asante and Tejumola Ologboni, and a tribute to Zora Neale Hurston, “Zora Tales,” presented by the Asante Touring Company. Highlights on Saturday include a vendor expo and reader’s theater performance by the Beckmann Theatre Company of “Rivers, Rails and Roads,” chronicling the shared experiences of residents in the Haughville community. Storytellers will compete in the Tall Tale Championship to win cash prizes and have their name engraved on the coveted Tall Tale Championship plaque. Sunday will see another performance of “Zora Tales,” more storytelling by Ologboni and a concert by the ACT Kwanzaa Choir under the direction of Vincent Howard.
