It’s not often that a singer/songwriter is singled out for her guitar skills. Patty Larkin is often mentioned as one of the best female guitar players in America. With a reputation as a “musician’s musician,” she has blurred the line of acoustic guitar playing by including loops and effects in her songs, as well as elements of rock, blues and funk styles.

Larkin has been a big part of the folk music scene since her first album in 1986. She now has 10 critically acclaimed records under her belt and continually evolves her style. Her songs have been covered by musicians from Cher to Holly Cole, and have been included in several feature films. In addition, Larkin was awarded an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, Berklee College of Music (alongside synthesizer pioneer Dr. Robert Moog), in 2002 for her outstanding contributions to contemporary music.

Larkin will perform a solo show as part of the Acoustic Café Series this Saturday at the Old Centrum Auditorium. You can expect to hear extraordinary guitar playing and a sampling of Larkin’s blazing wit.
