Screaming
I wanted to scream when I read Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita’s comment in your last issue (News, “Another Challenge to Voter ID,” June 25-July 2). It seems Todd is upset that another lawsuit has been filed regarding Indiana’s contentious voter ID law. He said, “Indiana has got some real problems, and this isn’t one of them.” I would like to remind him that voter fraud isn’t one of them either, yet the Republicans have been hell-bent on passing this measure for some time now.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the ID law in large part because opponents could not produce evidence that the new ID requirements had actually prevented anyone from voting. Were the Republicans in turn asked to provide evidence of past voter fraud that this law is supposed to prevent?
Note to Rokita: Gay marriage also is not one of those “real problems” that Indiana needs to fix.
