Prog-rock kings Rush celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2004 with a worldwide tour. But don’t think the trio is now relegated to the nostalgia circuit, playing backwoods grandstands and county fairs. Rush is back, touring the usual amphitheaters and arenas behind the May release of their 18th studio album, Snakes & Arrows.

While “R30” was a comprehensive summation of their career, this jaunt is all about the present.

The set list for the Snakes & Arrows Tour features nine songs from the new CD, the most Rush has ever played while touring for a current album. Familiar anthems like “Limelight” and “Tom Sawyer” are still in the rotation, but other standbys, like “2112” and “La Villa Strangiato,” have been replaced by the likes of the soaring, stomping poignancy of “Far Cry” and new instrumentals like “The Main Monkey Business.”

Besides a disgusting amount of individual talent, Rush combines it to make something cohesive and engaging — even inspiring.
