Power-chord opera
by Editors Nov 8, 2006

"Rock opera” often refers to such stage shows as Rent. But the East Village Opera Company is taking that genre literally. EVOC combines power-chord guitar rock and a string quartet to reinterpret classical music’s greatest arias, creating a truly rock opera concert.

EVOC is on their first major U.S. tour, backing their self-titled debut album, which came out in the fall of 2005. The tour will stop in Indy Nov. 10 at Clowes Hall.

Time Out New York stated the group “electrifies the classics for a new generation,” while the New York Post said that EVOC’s “tunes aren’t bastardized, but electrified.”

Audiences will hear familiar tunes by Eminem and The Who as well as EVOC’s renditions of Mozart’s “Overture from Le Nozze Figaro,” Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” and Bizet’s “Au Fond du Temple Saint,” among others.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20-$30, with a 20 percent discount for students and seniors, through Ticketmaster, www.ticketmaster.com, or call the Clowes box office at Butler University: 317-940-6444.

You can preview the EVOC at www.eastvillageoperacompany.com or www.myspace.com/eastvillageoperacompany.
