Primary Colours, the local arts collective, is bringing back its Home for Orphan Art, a program created for the IndyFringe Festival last year. This year will see the Home ensconced inside the Athenaeum during IndyFringe, Aug. 24-Sept. 2.

The Home for Orphan Art is an impromptu gallery that displays framed and unframed hanging visual artwork that previous owners have tired of or want to give away. Anyone with art they no longer need can hang it with the other orphans. Then if someone wants to offer the art a good home, they can simply take it off the rack, photograph themselves with the piece and/or leave a note with their name and why they chose the particular piece they did. If they wish, they can trade one piece for another.

Orphan art is now being accepted. You can leave artwork in an art bin behind the iron gate of the Athenaeum Foundation at 451 N. New Jersey St. between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. You can also donate art at any Fringe Friday event (June 29, July 27) or at selected businesses on Massachusetts Avenue.

The Home for Orphaned Art is maintained by Primary Colours (www.primarycolours.org), a non-profit arts organization that facilitates interaction between visual artists and the community. It is involved in a number of programs through the year, including Art vs. Art, Allotropy, Toys and the Professional Development Series for artists.
