NUVO presents Skate ’n’ Spin
by Paul F. P. Pogue Dec 5, 2007

Saturday, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m. at Pepsi Coliseum with Stereo Deluxe, all-ages; continues at 10 p.m. at Spin Nightclub with Orick, 21+
$4 for both events

Panic at the disco! Or, more correctly, panic at the skating rink and THEN panic at the disco. Saturday, Dec. 8, NUVO presents Skate ’n’ Spin, our holiday reader appreciation party, with skating at the Pepsi Coliseum from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and dancing afterwards at Spin Nightclub from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. (The rink’s all-ages; 21 and up at the club.)

Entertainment includes music by Stereo Deluxe at the rink and Orick DJing the decks at Spin. Plus, both events will have appearances by the lovely ladies of the Naptown Roller Girls, who know a thing or two about skates themselves, and start their new season Dec. 29.

You can get into both events for $4, which includes ice skates at the rink and pizza at the club.

While we’re talking about Stereo Deluxe, the guys will have their new album out early next year, and this show will be a chance both to catch the new stuff and hear some of the old stuff for the last time in a while.

“Back in the 1970s, roller rinks used to have rock bands all the time,” says Stereo Deluxe frontman Jay Elliott. “We’ve never done anything like this. And this like one dimension removed — it’s ice skating, and anything with a blade is cooler! We like any chance we can get to play for kids; there aren’t a lot of chances to play all-ages in Indianapolis.

“We’re kind of retiring some of the material from the first record; we’re trying to rock them out for one of the last times we’ll be doing a show of all that material.”
