On behalf of the students of Christian Theological Seminary (CTS), the CTS Student Council has voted unanimously to oppose the Crown Hill development proposal. The plan, as developed by Mann properties, would surely bring ruin to Indianapolis’ last untouched area of forest and wetland. Such a loss would be an ecological and spiritual disaster for our shared community.

One who enjoys watching the numerous deer that make this small piece of land home is often reminded of Psalm 42:1-2, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” This untouched forested wetland is just such a place, where one can be with God amongst the true glory of the Divine’s unspoiled creation. Here, in this sacred space, the Earth itself bears witness to how our world once was and, perhaps more importantly, provides guidance and conviction for the ecological restoration of our community.

For decades this land has inspired the students of Christian Theological Seminary towards a better understanding of God’s continued presence in the world. In giving up this area our community denies the Divine’s invitation to be in a space unspoiled by human lust and greed. As spiritual leaders of this community, we call on all those involved with this proposal to rise in defense of this treasured place by saying “no” to the Crown Hill development plan.
