• Clowes Hall at Butler University has announced its 2007-’08 season. Among the musicians slated to perform are Natalie MacMaster, Oct. 5; the Vienna Choir Boys, Oct. 20; Peter Cincotti, Nov. 2; The Temptations, Feb. 8, 2008; Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea and Jack DeJohnette, April 25, 2008.
• Tonic Ball VI will take place Friday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m., featuring local musicians’ tributes to Madonna (all-ages show at the Fountain Square Theatre) and the Clash (21-plus show at Radio Radio). The annual event raises money for the Second Helpings charity.
• WICR-FM 88.7 has ceased broadcast of its classical radio show, Adventures in Good Music. The 8 a.m. weekday slot that drew nearly 10,000 listeners will be replaced by a similar program, Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin.
• Indy’s Butch Castetter has released a new CD, 419 North, recorded locally at Static Shack and produced by John Mellencamp’s drummer, Dane Cook, and Alan Johnson (the engineer for The Bob and Tom Show). Find out more at www.ButchC.com. Look for NUVO’s CD review in a future issue.
• New York-based hip-hop songwriter with Indiana roots Kel Spencer, once an all-star N.Y. quarterback, has worked closely with artists such as Will Smith. Dubbed “the best rapper you’ve never heard of,” his new video single, “The Building,” can be viewed for free at www.myspace.com/kelspencer and on YouTube.
