• Indy’s WIBC radio station, which first launched on airwaves in 1938, announced this week that 93.1 FM RadioNow will become a news-talk channel, and 1070 AM will transform into a ESPN affiliate. The transitions will take place now through early January 2008. RadioNow will continue to stream via Internet on High Definition Digital Radio™ at 93.1HD2.
• The second Crossroads of Evolution metal fest at the Emerson Theater, slated for Oct. 19-20, has been cancelled.
• Indy’s SplashTone.com has formed a partnership with a Florida-based company, TXT Signal, so fans can subscribe to receive text message reminders on their cell phones about their favorite bands’ concert dates. The site currently features more than 600 bands, including 88 Hoosiers. SplashTone.com is currently free for users, but will soon charge $9.99 for its services. The site will stay free for venues and promoters.
• Hear the best in current hip-hop during Thursday Night Live on Oct. 11 at Ice Ultra Lounge. The showcase will feature Trip-7 Productions artists Lameck Sevensky, Griffo, Too Sick and Grimey Beatz; 4dayz artists AB and Hard Head; Ram-Z from 31-South Entertainment; and Jimmy G from Jussumfunc Records.
• Dave Brown and Rob Ondrish of the Melody Inn celebrate having owned the historic bar for six years this Friday, Oct. 12 with a party that features performances by The Melismatics, Rock Star Club, Fuzz Huzzi, Reckless Edward, Miss Kimmy & Zorba and special guests The Fuglees, 7 p.m. $7, 21+.
• Maximum Rock ’n’ Roll columnist Mykel Board will perform at the Melody Inn Saturday, Oct. 13 during the Broad Ripple Fall Music Fest. He recently wrote a travelogue about music, sex and Mongolia, called Even a Daughter is Better Than Nothing. Catch him on stage during Punk Rock Night.
