Local comic waiting for heart transplant
A roster of Indianapolis-based comedians, including Mel Fine and Kris Shaw, played a fund-raiser for Brian Archer Sunday night at One-Liners in Greenwood. Archer — a local, full-time comic who supports himself by touring — suffered a heart attack that left him unable to work and with a badly damaged heart. A crowd of 150 people showed up to show their support.
“Comedy isn’t the type of job where you have disability insurance and a big savings account,” said event organizer Kristie Shaw. “Something needed to be done on Brian’s behalf. Somebody needed to step forward and help him financially.”
Archer was recently fitted with a defibrillator and is awaiting a heart transplant. Anyone interested in making a contribution to help Archer defray mounting medical bills can visit the Web site www.comedyforacause.org.
