Laugh a little
by Letter to the Editor May 23, 2007

Do you even watch The Daily Show (Cover, “Behind the Scenes at The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” May 16-23)? I guess the thousands of people who watch it on a regular basis care about the show ... as does the mainstream media, since every fifth article seems to either be about the Daily or The Colbert Report, their stars and/or the impact they’re making on popular culture and society in general. And “trendy” seems to be the wrong choice of word for a show that’s been on the national radar for years now. Besides which ... most of the fans of the Daily know Jon doesn’t write all of his own jokes (gosh! is THAT why there are about 10 writers listed in the credits?!) and 98 percent of those wearing the “Stewart/Colbert 2008” shirts are in on the joke. In case you were about to castigate them, too. Take a break from the trials and travails of the “real world” and laugh a little. That’s what the Daily is all about.
