This February will mark the 12th year that the Art & Soul Festival has celebrated African-American art and artists in Indiana. The month-long, free event, produced by the Arts Council of Indianapolis, is opening with performances at the Artsgarden this weekend.

The Eastern Star Church Gospel Choir and Praise Dancers will start things off Friday, Feb. 1 at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m., the festival rolls along with the contemporary jazz of Gregg Bacon’s Quartet, which will feature Sir James Simmons on guitar and 11-year-old Bryan Thompson on sax.
