With pianist Monika Herzig once again teaching her IUPUI Continuing Education course “An Overview on Jazz History and the Indianapolis Jazz Scene,” the Chatterbox will open up for live music Monday nights this fall. Herzig will bring in local musicians to demonstrate the part of the jazz world that she’s teaching in a given week.

Stasia’s Supper Club, 2441 Lafayette Road, will present “An Evening With Gregg Bacon” Thursday, Sept. 18 from 7-11 p.m. Admission is free with complimentary hors d’oeuvres from C & R Catering.

Grovlogic will play Sept. 19-20 from 8 p.m. to midnight for a cover charge of $5.

Jazz luminary Tyner — supported by Ron Carter’s bass and Jack DeJohnette’s drums — serves up a sterling two-disc set of CD and DVD that features five guest guitarists. Tyner, who has never recorded with a guitar player, chose Bela Fleck, Bill Frisell, Mark Ribot, John Scofield and Derek Trucks for this project. Each guitarist is featured on multiple tracks. Ribot is on four, Bela Fleck and Bill Frisell on three, and John Scofield and Derek Trucks on two. The bonus is the interactive DVD that holds over three hours of video of the studio sessions, with multiple viewing angles of the individual artist and group performances. This is an awesome package with each guitarist rising to the Tyner Trio’s take-no-prisoners musical approach.
