May outdoor jazz


Now that everything is in bloom, we are starting our monthly guide to outdoor summer jazz to help jazz lovers enjoy their sounds under the sun and stars.

The Chef’s Academy “Groovin’ in the Garden” at Easley Winery, 2005 N. College Ave.
Tuesdays, 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays, 2-5 p.m. Concerts are free.

May 24: Michael Beck & Kenny Kipp

Concerts on the Canal, 450 W. New York St.
For ticket information call 317-232-1882. Concerts are Thursdays, 6-8 p.m.

May 29: The Best of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong: The Cool City Swing Band with Shannon Forsell and Jimmy Guilford

Jazz in the Park at Watkins Park

May 25: Indy Jazz Company, 5-8 p.m. Concerts are free.

A Great Day In Indy

Sixty-six jazz artists have now signed up for photographer Mark Sheldon’s upcoming documentary photo of Indy jazz artists. The shoot is scheduled for June 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the Indiana History Center. Professional jazz artists who have played on a sustained basis in Indy can participate by calling Sheldon at 317-445-4640 or signing up directly at www.agreatdayinindy.com.
