Jazz at Broad Ripple Art Fair


May 17:

11 a.m.: Swing Set, a new jazz quartet of seasoned veterans from Bloomington, Ind.

12:30 p.m.: Typhanie Monique Duo, featuring the honey voiced vocalist known as Chicago’s most recognized jazz vocalist.

2:30 p.m: Cynthia Layne, an internationally recognized vocalist of jazz/funk standards with a strong band.

3 p.m.: Todd Harold Trio, a mixture of jazz and funk sounds.

4:30 p.m.: Brandon Meeks Quartet, sparkling jazz led by a strong bassist.


May 18:

10:30 a.m.: Hip Harp Jazztet features Jan Aldridge Clark’s harp with jazz treatments of everything from Celtic music to Led Zeppelin

2 p.m.: Janiece Jaffe Trio, a versatile vocalist who sings standards to scat with great presence.

Paul Winter’s Earth Mass

Encore Vocal Arts and St Luke’s United Methodist Church Choirs will present the Indianapolis premiere of Paul Winter’s groundbreaking work “Earth Mass” May 16 and May 18 at 7:30 p.m. The two vocal ensembles, numbering 150 singers, will be joined by an orchestra, dance and a multimedia display.

The performance will intertwine vocal, instrumental, classical, jazz and sound bytes of animals from wolves to whales. Winter’s massive work is designed to draw attention to environmental issues. The performance St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 West 86th St.
