Instruments of Science & Technology
Music from the Films of R/Swift
Secretly Canadian
Three and a half stars

Coming off like a Holger Czukay-directed soundtrack for a Darren Aronofsky bummed-out thriller, Music From the Films of R/Swift is a stellar batch of krautrock meanderings from one of today’s brightest young songwriters, Richard Swift. Known for his John Lennon-like writing style, Swift spreads his ambition here, working in a genre far more technically complex than what he’s used to and somehow pulling it off. Better add “avant-garde musician” to R/Swift’s rapidly-growing resume.

Sounds like:
James Murphy if he didn’t secretly want to be a pop star.
