June is when the summer festival season kicks into high gear in Indianapolis. One sure sign that summer is almost here is the 41st Annual Strawberry Festival this Thursday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (or until the strawberries and shortcakes last) on Monument Circle. Sponsored by Cathedral Women of Christ Church Cathedral, the festival annually draws happy throngs of downtown folks for homemade shortcakes topped with strawberries, ice cream and whipped cream. The “Works” is still just $5. Live music includes the Indianapolis Symphony Brass Ensemble at 12:15 p.m. and the Murat Banjo Band at 3:15.

Also, don’t miss the Italian Street Festival this Friday and Saturday night from 5 to 11 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 520 Stevens St., in historic Fletcher Place.
