Ice advance
by Joe O'Gara May 9, 2007

Two days before the start of their first round of United States Hockey League (USHL) playoff series against Green Bay, the Indiana Ice named Charlie Skjodt the team’s interim head coach. While it may have been an unusual time to make a coaching change, the move has appeared to pay off.

The Ice won their first ever playoff series with a four-game sweep of the Gamblers in round one. Next up was the second round pool play, where the Ice beat both the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by the score 4-3 and advanced to the 2007 USHL Clark Cup Championship at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa.

Ice forward Garrett Roe leads the team’s playoff, scoring with two goals and nine assists. Goalie Alex Kangas is 6-0 in the post-season, with a 2.44 goals-against average.

The “final four” format will find the Ice taking on Sioux Falls at 3 p.m. this Saturday afternoon (Indianapolis time) in the first game. If the Indiana squad wins that game, they will play for the Clark Cup in the championship game on Sunday at 8 p.m. against either Des Moines or Waterloo. See www.indianaice.com.
