IBE prepares for 2006 Summer Celebration
by Al Atkins Jun 28, 2006

The 36th annual Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration is back July 6-16 for another fun-filled and educational journey through the cultural, artistic and economic achievements of African-Americans in Indiana and across the nation.

This year promises to be one of the most successful Summer Celebrations in the history of Indiana Black Expo. IBE President Joyce Q. Rogers continues to guide Indiana Black Expo’s vision of providing educational and cultural information to all citizens of Indianapolis about the contributions and concerns of the African-American community as well as focusing on development of entrepreneurial and economic resources to empower persons of color and the communities in which we all live.

Once again the highlight of the Summer Celebration will be the free concert featuring the heartfelt and soulful sounds of En Vogue, Boyz II Men and super-veteran Charlie Wilson. Other featured events are the “Unite 2 Fight” Race Against Prostate Cancer, the WTHR Employment Fair, the NCAA Kid’s World Experience, the Black and Minority Health Fair, the Saving Our Youth Celebrity Basketball Game, Children’s Day at the Circus and the IBE Film Festival.

There will also be another strong emphasis on education and higher education opportunities with Indiana University and Purdue University serving as sponsors for many of the events. The Indiana University School of Law as well as the Kelley School of Business will have admission information available for prospective students. Also, authors Will Downing (best known for his book Unveiled) and Hill Harper are both scheduled to have booksignings during the Expo.
