I bust my butt
by Letter to the Editor May 16, 2007

In response to “That Would Never Happen in Boston” (Letters, Feb. 28-March 7): There is more to the Indianapolis music scene than “frat boys” and alcohol. Eric, you said you were embarrassed of Indy when you attend live shows. May I suggest you attend some of the shows at Boulevard Place Cafe or the Indy Hostel? I’ve been booking and promoting live music here in Indy since 2004. I bust my butt trying to get folks out to try on some new music by wonderful acoustic singer/songwriters in venues that are not bars. I would LOVE to see more people come out, more folks like Eric who are fed up with bar talkers, cover bands and flowing beer. I challenge YOU to come out and listen to some real music that will make you think and appreciate the fact that you are sitting in a room with other music lovers hearing an incredible talent for a fraction of what you’d pay at Verizon or Conseco. You will feel blessed! Please, I’m begging you to come.

I'm with the original writer. Musicians really hate it when people clap, woop, dance, or even smile at their shows. They prefer the crowds in Boston, Brooklyn, SF, and LA who are far too cool to even notice that there is a band playing, let alone respond in a positive way.
