Hurray for Irsay
by Letter to the Editor Feb 14, 2007

Hurray for Jim Irsay! I wish I worked for him! How many business owners or CEOs do you know who would give all of their employees a full ride to the Super Bowl? I understand he allowed each and every person to travel to Miami and attend the game on his dime, not theirs. That is more than generous.

I also understand that Mr. Irsay offered tickets at face value to many city and state leaders. They paid for their tickets, as well as their own travel expenses to and from the game. While some might complain, I think this another nice gesture, and a fair one. He could have paid their way, but he didn’t. He simply made the tickets available. This isn’t bribery or payola, simply good business for the Colts and the city.

I know nothing about football other than how to tell if someone scored a touchdown. But I do know how to recognize a grateful and generous member of our community, and that is Jim Irsay. So I want to say thanks, Mr. Irsay, thank you for thinking so highly of your employees and our city. Perhaps I will now learn something about the game of football (well … maybe not).
