Holiday Show: Amy Kindred and John Domont
by Julianna Thibodeaux Dec 19, 2007

Four stars
Domont Studio Gallery

Found towers of rocks in the desert around Sedona, Ariz., offered compositional fodder for local artist Amy Kindred’s imagination, giving her the impetus to make large chalk and pastel drawings inspired by their generous round shapes. But the drawings move beyond Kindred’s initial inspiration to take on a life of their own: The earthy hues of rock are transformed into electric brights — brilliant orange, purple, green and even pink glow from the paper, illuminated further by dramatic black matting. And there’s a spiritual side, too, that Kindred recognizes: the enduring value of play, the delight in the shared experience of a rock cairn. Kindred’s drawings share the space with gallery owner John Domont’s landscapes and begging bowl studies, also iconic, enduring and decidedly spiritual. Through Dec. 30; 317-685-9634.
