Harland Williams
Three stars
Crackers Broad Ripple; Dec. 6-12
Harland Williams is better known for drinking urine opposite Jim Carrey than he is for his standup comedy. But in front of a sold-out crowd at Crackers, Harland showed that his comedic prowess is infinitely more dynamic than his resume of Sorority Boys, Half-Baked and a 30-second exchange in Dumb and Dumber. A drunken assortment of Sigma Chi sweethearts and stoners often interjected demands for two-bit quotes from Harland’s cult-classic movies, which was annoying at worst and laughable at best — many of them were victimized by his improvisational breed of crowd-interactive comedy. After 20 minutes of an audience inquisition and ensuing crowd control, he finally told his first scripted joke. There was nothing terribly clever or quotable from his time on stage, but his hour was wholly entertaining and filled with an “everyman” style of spontaneous fun. He makes you want to go drinking with him after the show.
