Happy birthday, ComedySportz
by Andrew Roberts Feb 13, 2008

This weekend, ComedySportz on Massachusetts Avenue will commemorate its 15th year of family-safe improvisational comedy in Indianapolis with prize give-aways and “special” matches, as comedy teams ferociously compete for audience affection. The anniversary shows are Feb. 14-16, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and a 10 p.m. encore performance Saturday only. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and $8 for kids ages 5-11.

ComedySportz is celebrated nationally for its ambitiously unique breed of comedy, which satisfies an audience’s craving for laughter and competition in a single event. The evening’s “referee” hosts the show and regulates the cleanliness of content (from both performers and audience) and encourages audience participation — culminating with a decisive electoral ballot for the evening’s champion.

ComedySportz began its reign as Indy’s most popular comedy troupe in 1993, playing to late-night audiences at Theatre on the Square in Fountain Square. They then made a home out of a converted beauty shop on the near Northside, before settling down to the warm, arts-friendly confines of 721 Massachusetts Ave. in 1999, where they still deliver the city’s best unscripted humor, every weekend.

To reserve tickets, call 317-951-8499, or visit www.comedysportzindy.com.
