The Easley Winery is making a unique contribution to Indianapolis’ growing cultural calendar. The downtown winery pairs what they know best with local music. Meredith Easley, co-owner of the winery and part mastermind behind the summer-long Groovin’ in the Garden event series, says wine and music are meant to enhance life and provide comfort.

Every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday from 2-5 p.m., the winery opens its doors to the winegarden and hosts a laid-back event for the whole family. Although the series began in May, there is still plenty of time to see a show. The concerts will take place until Sept. 29, featuring a variety of acts at the winegarden this summer — from jazz singer Mary Moss to the folk and blues sounds of Acoustic Catfish. “We primarily feature jazz, but there is a variety a music. It’s pretty mainstream, enjoyable, light and happy,” Easley says.

In its fourth year, this event has taken some time to catch on, but Tuesday shows draw a regular work crowd and Saturdays are a big day for families and couples.

Easley Winery is an independent family business. It gets most of its grapes in Indiana from a vineyard along the Ohio River and does its best to include other independent businesses in the area.

While people are welcome to bring their own picnic to the winegarden, this year, local restaurants such as Bazbeaux Pizza, Circle City Pizza, Coaches Tavern and Santorini Greek Kitchen are offering free delivery to the garden during the concerts. This year’s sponsor, the Chef Academy, will also hold random drawings to give away free cooking classes.

Singer-songwriter Ann McWilliams will groove at Easley Winery this Saturday with her folk music.
