Green Pride
by Letter to the Editor Jun 14, 2006
Laura McPhee’s reporting on Pride, Prejudice and Politics (Cover, June 7-14) was excellent. I’d like to inform NUVO’s readers that only one political party in Indiana marched in the Pride Parade: the Indiana Green Party. The Green Party, unlike the Democrats and Republicans, doesn’t need “Stonewall” or “Log Cabin” minority groups. The Green Party platform supports equal rights for all people. Unfortunately, you won’t have a chance to vote Green unless you sign a ballot access petition for Bill Stant (see www.citizensforstant.org), the Green Party candidate for secretary of state this year. Democrats and Republicans erected a huge barrier to third-party participation, enacting one of the nation’s strictest ballot access provisions. That way, they can cozy up to their corporate supporters and offer us voters a smidgen of choice each election. If you have any pride and want to fight prejudice, help the Greens make Indiana politics truly democratic.
