Four stars (NR)

Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton

Since the series premiered last fall, critics have been raving about this TV adaptation of the acclaimed book and movie, and pretty much everybody has ignored them. Despite dismal ratings, Friday Night Lights was renewed for a second season and will return in a few weeks. Here’s your chance to see a smart, colorful, richly detailed and beautifully acted look at life in a small Texas town. The drama begins with the revered local high school football team, but the show is about much more than football. Friday Night Lights isn’t perfect, but the show offers some of the finest TV I’ve seen in years. 955 minutes.

DVD INFO: Includes a making-of feature, episode commentary by the cast and deleted scenes. As an additional enticement to consumers, Universal Studios offers a refund to anyone who purchases the box set and isn’t satisfied.
