Jeremy Efroymson’s latest project, the Midwest Museum of Contemporary Art, was supposed to open last fall in Carmel. That didn’t happen. But the show that Efroymson hoped to unveil, BACKYARD — a look at suburban backyard living, couldn’t be stopped. Efroymson is bringing this group exhibition exploring the formal and conceptual qualities of the American suburban backyard to the scene of one of his previous projects, the Harrison Gallery. BACKYARD presents video work, photography, drawing, sculpture and installations by 11 artists, including Emily Kennerk, David A. Parker, Meredith Allen, Yoon Cho, Chris Vorhees and Pipo Nguyen-Duy. And while you’re at the Harrison Center … Check out the en ROUTE Gallery of VSA arts of Indiana. VSAI’s Urban Artisans project will dish up “good luck soup” in handmade bowls. The Urban Artisan Program is an arts pre-vocational program for at-risk youth. You can purchase a cup ($3) or a bowl ($6) and the artisans will fill it with fresh soup. The exhibit also includes ceramic vases, platters, cups, handmade cards and paintings. The opening is from 6-9 p.m. Friday; the show runs through Jan. 29.
