Festivals again

This is the Harrison Center’s once-a-year gift to the community. The fifth annual Independent Music + Art Festival is almost too good to be true. Almost. Combine 20 local and regional bands on two stages June 10 from 11 in the morning until 10 at night with work exhibited by over a dozen local visual artists, not to mention an exhibition of silk-screened rock posters from around the country in the Harrison Gallery at the Harrison Center’s Old Northside neighborhood location, and you’ve got the makings of a great time. Make the admission free and it gets even better. As always, the band lineup is superlative, including names like Lunar Event, Sea Krowns, The Freightliners, Everything, Now! and the legendary Vulgar Boatmen. And did we say admission is free? The Harrison Center is located at 1505 N. Delaware St. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/imaf.

Plus, this weekend is also the much-anticipated annual Talbot Street Art Fair. This is the 50th year for the juried art festival showcasing over 250 artists from across the country. The artists will line Talbot Street from 16th to 19th streets, as well as several side streets in historic Herron-Morton Place. The festival runs June 10, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and June 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free. Info: 317-927-9823 or 317-691-9532.
