Etheridge lives!

Etheridge Knight was a troubled treasure, a great American poet whose journey saw him through war, prison and a battle with addiction. He ended his life among friends and family in Indianapolis in 1991. His work was championed by poets as diverse as Gwendolyn Brooks and Robert Bly. Knight was especially known for the quality of his poetry readings, so the recent discovery of a videotape of one his readings constitutes a real find. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Etheridge Knight Festival and the Writers’ Center of Indiana will screen the tape of Knight reading as well as excerpts from last winter’s “Tribute to Etheridge” at the Chatterbox. Reception and open mic follows. Tickets are $10/$5 Seniors. Indianapolis Art Center Library, 820 E. 67th St.
