Several opportunities to be involved and educated in environmentally friendly events will take place throughout Indianapolis this weekend and next.

• A recycled art exhibit will be on display at the American Legion Mall during the festival.

• Zionsville residents will hold their own Earth Day celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, April 21 at the Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St. The event, ZGreenFest, will be free and open to the public.

• Nationally renowned author and chef, Ann Cooper, will deliver a free keynote speech at the Earth Day Celebration at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 5692 Central Ave., on Sunday, April 22. Cooper will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. and the event will be open to the public. Cooper will discuss how food production affects our health, society and environment and how it also contributes to the childhood obesity epidemic.

The parish will hold a fair in the church basement from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that will feature booths to educate visitors on environmental matters. Participants are encouraged to walk, ride a bike or carpool to the event.

• Hoosiers can learn more about zero emissions through the Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives (ZERI) Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. this Saturday, April 21 at the Southeast Neighborhood School of Excellence, 1601 Barth St. The workshop comes with a registration fee of $30, which will include morning snacks and lunch. • Downtown Indianapolis will host the Earth Day Indiana festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. The free outdoor festival will feature throngs of exhibits on how to get green, along with live music, food and kid-friendly activities.
