Drum and bass recap

Dieselboy
Therapy Nightclub & Lounge
Wednesday, Feb. 21

“Bombs” were dropped on Indianapolis this past Wednesday — bombs that got the party hyped and the dance floor moving.

Sporting a mullet and a Marines T-shirt, world-famous drum and bass DJ Dieselboy (Damian Higgins) made a highly-attended stop at Therapy Nightclub & Lounge in Indianapolis. Besides spinning some of his earliest produced tracks, he also played some of his freshest.

“I haven’t released a mix in a few years,” Higgins said. “The last was The Dungeon Master’s Guide, but I do release new vinyls on my label every month or so.”

This event didn’t just bring the most famous drum and bass DJ to town; it also brought local DJs to the forefront. Opening the night was Dozuki with his pristine cutting skills, while Johnny Utah and GizzmOwen held down the main room until Dieselboy took over the decks after midnight. Sea Monkey and the Doc tamed the groove while Dieselboy kept the main room sweaty and full of energy.

After spinning his signature style of hard-hitting drum and bass for more than two hours, Dieselboy expressed how it feels to be in his shoes. “I have a normal life,” he said. “When I’m not spinning, I live in a normal situation like everyone else.”

According to event promoter “Geek,” the next big Indianapolis drum and bass event will take place April 3 when London Elektricity comes to the Melody Inn.
