Dream houses
by Editors Sep 20, 2006

Ever wonder what the city’s best architects would consider “dream homes”? On Sept. 23 and 24 you can discover what some of Indianapolis’ top architects envision a dream house to be – as well as get a sense of what constitutes the local state-of-the-art — by touring a special collection of homes designed or owned by local architects. Nine homes are featured on the 2006 Architects’ Home Tour, sponsored by the Indianapolis chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 24. Locations and a map of the Indianapolis homes are available by calling (317) 875-5500. The tour will feature a range of architectural styles, including a round house and a renovated Queen Anne. Most homes are located in downtown Indianapolis, in various neighborhoods which include Chatham Arch, Herron-Morton Place, Lockerbie Square and the Old Northside; one home is located in Delaware Commons on the city’s north side, another is in Zionsville. Advance tickets to the 2006 Architects’ Home Tour are available for $12 at Habitat for Humanity, 1011 E. 22nd St.; Blackburn Architects, 3388 Founders Rd.; and Schmidt Associates, 320 E. Vermont St. Tickets also may be purchased at each house on the days of the tour for $15. AIA Indianapolis will donate all proceeds to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis.
