Dragons Unearthed
by Paul F. P. Pogue Sep 23, 2008

Four stars
The Children's Museum

The Dinosphere has, in the last few years, proven itself to be one of the most enduring and incredible exhibits at the Children’s Museum, and its latest addition is no exception. Dragons Unearthed is part of an overall scenario displaying artistic interpretations of dinosaurs through the ages, whether it be very early 19th century sculptures or the famous 1953 Life Magazine foldout that inspired so many amateur paleontologists. It’s amusing and educational at once to see what the early dino-mavens got wrong (they thought dinosaurs were really, really fat) but also to see how much, in spite of a limited fossil record and a nearly unbelievable creature before them, they actually got right. And now that we’ve seen fossils like Dracorex Hogwartsia, some dinos end up looking more like dragons than we ever imagined. Makes you wonder if the ancient storytellers who came up with dragons knew more than we thought they did. Through September 2009; 317-334-3322, www.ChildrensMuseum.org.
