DK and ISO team up
by Editors Sep 3, 2008

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Dance Kaleidoscope are collaborating to present a performance that melds the worlds of dance and symphonic music, Scheherazade.

The all-Russian program will begin with the ISO, 2000 Leeds International Piano Competition winner Alessio Bax and DK performing DK Artistic Director David Hochoy’s choreographed presentation of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s piano masterpiece Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The second portion will feature the ISO’s presentation of “The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship” and “The Tale of the Kalander Prince” from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade (DK will not perform in this portion of the program). The ISO will also present  Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Danse indienne” from Mlada, and the program will conclude with DK and the ISO performing “The Young Prince and Princess” and the Finale from Scheherazade. The concert will be conducted by Mario Venzago, who will begin his seventh season of artistic leadership as music director of the Indianapolis Symphony with these performances.

Performances are Sept. 5-6, 8 p.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler University campus, and will feature two intermissions. Tickets begin at $30, and a special $100 “Jewel Package” is offered, which includes premium seating, complimentary food and cocktails at intermission and a post-concert reception with DK dancers and ISO musicians. Tickets can be purchased at the Clowes box office or at through Ticketmaster (317-239-1000, www.Ticketmaster.com).
