IQ Entertainment and Muzique Boutique present DJ Hive, DJ Shiva, Pixie, C. James, Shady J
Broke(n) Wednesday at Seven
Wednesday, June 6, 9 p.m., $5

“Death Threat,” “Warrior,” “Vampire,” “Piston,” “Danger Girl,” “Headhunter,” “Aggressor.” There’s a common link between all of these DJ Hive track titles, and that link is his mantra and record label: Violence. Hive’s style of drum and bass is removed from DJs like London Electricity, whom IQ brought to Indy in April, and most certainly is removed from the melodic, euphoric style of DJs like LTJ Bukem or local DJ Sea Monkey. Hive’s sound can be expressed no more simply than “hard.”

Originally based out of San Francisco, Hive has traveled the world dropping beats and winning over clubgoers. Despite being featured on the Matrix: Reloaded soundtrack, as well as being sampled in numerous TV shows and other media, Hive isn’t as well-known in popular culture as you’d expect.

That doesn’t make him any less recognized though. He’s one of the top American drum and bass DJs in the world.

On Wednesday, June 6, IQ will bring the violence to Seven in Broad Ripple. The night will also feature Indy DJ mainstay Shiva, known for her techno beats and remixes, who will play dubstep after Hive’s set to close out the night. When asked about it, she’ll tell you that she takes any chance she gets to spin dubstep. She loves it, electronic fans love it and she’s one of the very few DJs in Indy that plays it.
