The bewitching hour lasts all week

“This is Halloween, everybody make a scene, pumpkins scream in the dead of night …” Okay, odds are you won’t be seeing Danny Elfman perform anywhere nearby this weekend, but Halloween is traditionally a wild week for local music, as everybody dons their most insane best and spreads some mayhem on the lunatic fringe. Here’s a rundown of what’s going on around the city in the coming fright-filled days and witching nights.

Friday, October 26:

- Little Voice presents their Halloween ball with Dorsey, Rebuilt and My Left Arm at the Melody Inn, 3826 N. Illinois St., $5 with costume, $6 without.

- The Big Foot Monster Mash at Radio Radio, 1119 E. Prospect St., starting at 8 p.m., brings together several local bands to raise funds for two charities: YETI Kids, which supports orphaned and underprivileged children abroad and locally, and AIM, who provides mentoring to juveniles. The bands include the Don Stuck Band, the Cousin Brothers, the Circle City Bluegrass Band and the Spud Puppies, $10.

- The Rathskeller hosts Peal Meets the Phantom of the Rathskeller at 7 p.m., no cover, 401 E. Michigan St. Peal presents a KISS tribute (you just knew that was coming) and other music for the ’Skeller’s annual Halloween party. Prizes will be given for best costume.

- The self-described “bizarre quintet” of Detholz! presents their 8th Annual Jukebox of the Dead Halloween show at 9 p.m. at Zanies Too, 5914 E. 10th St. They remix and revise contemporary and soft rock songs with a distinctively creepy-crawly feel. They’ll also be premiering their motivational infomercial, “You: The Power of You.” Make of that what you will. Also on hand will be Creepin’ Charley and the Boneyard Orchestra with a full-blown theatrical event.

- What better place for a hellish horror show than a haunted house? The gang from Fleshsuit, some of which double as psycho killers in the scary show, perform at Frightland Haunted House at 9 p.m. Frightland is eight miles east of 465 on Washington St. Learn more at myspace.com/frightlandindiana.

Saturday, October 27:

- Pirates! Who doesn’t love pirates? And who doesn’t love “radical”-ness? By that yardstick, the Piradical Halloween Show wins points on name alone. Harley Poe and In the Face of War carry on their tradition of dueling Halloween bands at The Underground, 1505 N. Delaware St., at 7 p.m. $8 at the door without costume, $5 with costume. Blood, cobwebs and mystic mayhem abound with Brooklyn Vampire, Spunkugly and the Paranormals filling out the schedule; check out www.piradicalproductions.com.

- Jimmy B’s presents their Annual Halloween Party at the corner of 106th and College at 9 p.m. Alt-country outfit The Main Street Band performs. Admission is free.

- Time Out Lounge’s Annual Halloween part starts at 9 p.m. at 62nd and Allisonville Rd. Specktron provides live music. Prizes will be handed out all night, and there is no admission cost with a costume.

Sunday, October 28:

- The Melody Inn hosts its annual Halloween Metal show, featuring Necropharmacon, the Holland Account, Pvrenchymv and Martin Atkins of Pigface. Atkins will offer a seminar on “touring smart” from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; music starts at 8 p.m., $5, 21+.

Tuesday, October 30:

- It’s been some time since The Rocky Horror Picture Show played in Indianapolis; the gang from Change Thief brings it back for a live revival at Locals Only, 2449 E. 56th St., at midnight. If all goes well, there may be similar events in the future. Admission is free; dressing up in Rocky Horror is glam highly encouraged — (but no water guns or messy props, please!)

Wednesday, October 31:

- Hillbilly Halloween Hoedown! Seriously, just say that in the Hank Williams Jr. twang: HOOOO-dowwwn! Mandy Marie & The Cool Hand Lukes, Big Lazy and outlaw country band Stockwell Road rock it like it’s 1899 at the Melody Inn starting at 9 p.m. Cover is $5; costumes are encouraged!

- Spin Nightclub presents A Nightmare on Guilford Ave., the Hip Hop Halloween Bash, at 9 p.m, 6308 Guilford. Performers include MVL, Mic Sol and Ace-One, Ephect, Son of Thought, Jaecyn Bayne, Dropoff Records, Freeze, Radamex, Deific, DeLaFaye and Dangerous Minds. Admission is free.

- If you’ll be up in the Muncie, IN area, check out the 4th Annual Concert from Hell at Doc’s Music Hall, 215 S. Walnut St., featuring Grampall Jookabox, Red Queen Hypothesis, Phantom Watson, Crazy Larry and Brian Pepper’s Good Times Van. There will be lots of prizes for costumes! $3 cover with costume, $5 cover without. Show starts at 8 p.m.; www.docsmusichall.com.

- Dr. Chud (former drummer for the Misfits) and Dr. Chud’s X-Ward headline the Ugly Monkey’s Halloween bash starting at 8 p.m., 50 W. South St., $10 at the door. Other bands include Phantom Witch, Creep, Dr. Satan, Pagan Holiday 1313 and the Antagonists, with horror films showing all night long.

- Last but not least, who does Halloween better than goth folk? Nobody. It’s like goth prom! To party with the gang where it’s Halloween all year round, check out Mutiny! at the Casba, 6319 N. Guilford, starting at 10 p.m., no cover. Local DJ legends Sarah Vain, Mister E and Dead Billy spin goth, new wave, punk, industrial and so forth; costumes are highly encouraged.
