Singer/songwriter David Bazan initially made his name writing from a confessional Christian slant as the frontman/chieftain of indie rock band Pedro the Lion. His work under the Pedro moniker, released over the course of seven years, includes four acclaimed albums and a handful of EPs. Now touring as a solo act, Bazan remains a sometimes controversial artist (read: smarmy, opinionated and unapologetically liberal) who many critics consider to be one of the best of his generation.

Bazan has also played a key role in a number of other noteworthy bands, including The Guilty (with Jurado), Six Parts Seven, Starflyer 59, Unwed Sailor, indie supergroup The Undertow Orchestra (Mark Eitzel, Vic Chesnutt, Will Johnson) and his own synthesizer-based pop band, Headphones. Only since the release of his solo debut, the excellent Fewer Moving Parts EP, has Bazan taken time to breathe, though his mini-hiatus has been filled with recording sessions for his forthcoming solo LP, David Bazan’s Black Cloud. Oh, and he’s also planning to release a second Headphones album soon enough with best friend and former Pedro cohort Tim “Soft Drugs” Walsh. Did somebody say hiatus?

Bazan is currently on the road in support of his Fewer EP. Lucky for Indy-area audiophiles, he and his brand new record label — Seattle’s Barsuk Records, of Death Cab For Cutie, Nada Surf and Menomena fame — have scheduled an eight-stop U.S. tour that will see two Indiana shows, one at Locals Only in Indianapolis Wednesday, Feb. 20 and a second the next day at Taylor University’s Upland campus. Word on the street, err, Internet is that Bazan is playing a minimum of six new songs right now, all of which have live versions available for download at www.davidbazan.com.
