The NUVO-Cultural Trail Cycling team continued its winning streak this past weekend, taking top honors in races both Friday and Saturday and increasing their lead in the point standings of this year's racing series.
As part of the “Hot Summer Nights Series” at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis on Friday, Mike Lantz posted the fastest time in the 10-mile scratch race for Category 1 and 2 riders (after lapping the rest of the field), finishing in 21:53. Team members Paddy Kilmurray, Sasha Land and Andrzei Banaszkienicz helped round out the top ten. Kilmurray came in first in the three lap scratch as well.
On Saturday, the NUVO team headed to Fishers where they competed in the Indiana State Road Race Championships. The 73-mile race which began and ended at Hamilton Southeastern High School gave the team ample opportunity to utilize and showcase the skills that have continuous landed them on the winner's podium this season.
“We all knew the plan and then worked the plan,” said NUVO rider Aaron Hubbell. “Everyone selflessly worked in the race to set up our designated guys for the critical move.”
While Hubbell contends that the team “had at least four of five guys capable of winning,” it was veteran rider Declan Doyle who finished first, with three teammates also in the top 10.
“I was especially impressed by [Matt] Riggs and Rich [Dufour],” Hubbell said. “[They] put in tireless, selfless work to establish the initial critical gap and then driving hard to keep the momentum going through to the finish. They worked like dogs and were critical in our success. I was really proud of how the team rode this weekend.”
The next race for NUVO-Cultural Trail is the Marion Classic on August 8 and 9. For more on the team or the 2008 NUVO-Cultural Trail Racing Series, go to www.nuvoculturaltrailcycling.com
