Midway through her Indianapolis show, Sara Evans told the audience that this was her first tour as a headliner. It seems that the years she spent as an opening act has given her the experience and confidence to be the biggest name on the concert hall marquee.

Backed by a seven-piece band that included her sister Lesley on backing vocals and brother Matt on bass, Evans treated her fans to a well-paced 75-minute show that had a lot of them on their feet for most of the evening.

One of the show’s highlights was Evans’ performance of “Cheatin,’” her Top 10 hit, an I’m-over-you type of song that was reminiscent of country legend Tammy Wynette.

Evans’ set mixed songs about love (“Could Not Ask for More”), leaving home (“Born to Fly” and “Suds in the Bucket”) and the bond between parent and child (“You’ll Always Be My Baby”).

Wearing jeans, a black tank top and a sheer blouse, she smiled and waved at the audience throughout the show. The dark-haired songstress closed the evening with a crowd-pleasing cover of Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move.”

Radney Foster, a talented singer/songwriter who was one half of the country music duo Foster and Lloyd, opened the show with an enjoyable acoustic set of original material.
