Colorful Hat Theatrical Circus
Two and a half stars
Pike Performing Arts Center; July 25
The Colorful Hat featured some amazing juggling and elegant acrobatics, all set to interesting music. But the “ring leader” character — a cleaning lady who uses a magical hat to create the acts — was pretty cheesy. Too much of the show featured her, even delving into a bad homage to performers like Judy Garland and Mae West. If the show centered on its strong points (the circus acts) instead of the filler material, it could have been top-notch. The dual aerial acrobatics at the end were breathtaking.
