Bomb the Music Industry!
by Nick Selm Jun 13, 2007

w/ Chotto Ghetto, The Pinstripes, Highway Magic and more
The Underground at the Harrison Center for the Arts
Monday, June 18, 6:30 p.m., $8, all-ages

Unless you are already a fan of Bomb the Music Industry!, you probably have not used the words “fresh” or “original” to describe a ska band in quite some time (if ever). Bomb the Music Industry! started as the one-man side-project of former Arrogant Sons of Bitches frontman Jeff Rosenstock. Luckily, the “side-project” status was dropped as it became Rosenstock’s full-time job.

Combining a base of ska and punk with heavy keyboards, electro noises and limitless songwriting ability, BTMI! blows away any attempts at classification. Imagine if Atom and his Package joined Dillinger Four and did an album of Suicide Machines’ covers. It’s that’s good.

The one-man-band status has been updated as well; Rosenstock has turned BTMI! into a musical collective, rather than a traditional band. Members flux in and out for various tours. Each BTMI! song is crafted with such passion and good spirits, it is next to impossible to not scream along to the clever lyrics.

Aside from the music, BTMI! is amazing on other levels, namely the pricing of their music: All BTMI! albums are free online. Sure, there is a suggested donation, but it’s free. Free. Free. Free.

With three albums under their collective belts and a fourth one, Get Warmer, on the way, BTMI! will have no shortage of songs to play. Circle City Ska, one of the few promoters of local, all-ages shows, has had the good fortune of booking BTMI! at the Underground. Fans of BTMI!, fans of ska, fans of punk and fans of music in general should slip on their checkerboards and head out to the Underground Monday, June 18 for what could quite possibly be the concert of the summer.
